About us

Hello everyone!

This is a new blog dedicated for reporting some information on our cycling trip in Africa. We will put both technical reports (how many days, kilometers, where, how and what was easy/difficult), pictures and stories here, hopefully at least short ones, as I already have a blog (in lithuanian, but you can find some pictures) which is crying for updates.

Who are we?

We are an adventurous lithuanian couple: Agnius (36) is a cook (responsible for most of planning) and Akvile (26) is a biologist (photography, updating blog).

After 1 year of backpacking in Middle East and Asia we decided to change a continent and means of transport.
We bought bicycles in Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) and had a direct flight to Mauritius, which is our starting point of our cycling adventure.
We are planning to travel in Mauritius, Madagascar and will try to cross Africa overland (Eastern part) towards Europe. Our passport pages are counted but our time is not limited :).

Why bicycles?

Bicycle was always our favourite means of transport - you can go anywhere, don't depend on a gas stations, can stop anywhere, take your time for nice sceneries and interacting with people. It's really good to feel that it's YOU who makes it move. As nature lovers we always avoid big cities and maybe Asia is a bit more difficult to explore on bike - so much traffic and population, but Africa seems to be best explored on a bicycle and camping is another great thing that we were not able to do so often in Asia, but should be easy in Africa.

Why Africa?

There are several reasons. First, after spending over a year in Asia we feel like changing a continent as we got used to things there and sometimes don't appreciate the moments or don't even notice something that we would if we new there. It's good to run away from a comfort zone again :).
Second, Africa was always a very interesting place to travel. We feel it is a good time for that and it was easy to plan the trip including such places like Mauritius and Madagascar so - why not to go for it?:) We will visit quite small part of Eastern Africa but it will be our way home as we need to change passports and show up to see our families anyway.
What is more, our friends would join us for a while (hopefully to the end:)). Waiting for them in Mauritius on November 1st!

We hope that you will find something useful here as we did in blogs of other fellow travellers. If you have any questions or suggestions – feel free to contact us akvile.nor@gmail.com !
